I should
have written this sooner. My only excuse is another
blizzard more time off school, broken water pipe, hot water heater that
died and life in general. But I did want you to know how
Teddy
was getting along. I hope you
can open the picture of my daughter and him. The kids are breaking thru
his shyness. We take turns holding and brushing him every night. I'm a
little put out right now, as he has decided he would rather sleep with
our youngest daughter than me. LOL :) I told her
it's only
because he
likes to hog the bed and she's small.01/07/2010
Katie (from Kansas City)
Just wanted to give
you an update on
Amos. He will be two years old on Thanksgiving and has become
a
fixture in our household. What an amazingly wonderful
creature! We DNA tested him and he turned out to be
a Golden
Retriever/Border Collie mix....we just tell people he's a
Golden
Collie. Amos would retrieve 24 hours a day
if you kept
throwing things for him. Even though we tell him
every day
how lucky he is to have such a fulfilling life, WE are really the lucky
ones. Thanks again for allowing that to happen.9/26/2009
I'm sure you remember
the sad little
cat Bonnie. The little kitty who
lost her ears to frostbite. She has been the greatest
cat.
We went
through about 2 months of not knowing if she was going to survive ,but
she is a fighter. We are up to 9 pounds now. Lost
my job in
July and
had to start traveling. Bonnie goes everywhere with me. She
loves
it.
When we get ready to go she even gathers up the babies she wants to
take w/her. It is so touching. Everytime I pack her things
she
has that little pillow that the kind lady made her for her
going
away
gift in her pile.. Brings a tear to my eye. She loves to romp
and
stomp. Especially w/plastic bags and straws. Finally she is
getting to
be the kitty she should have been to begin w/. I want to thank everyone
at the sanctuary for their kindness and bringing her and I together.
Can't imagine life w/o her. Sincerely-Carrie

I wanted to give you an
update on Tucker,
whom we adopted
from your cat sanctuary in May of 2005. He was a tabby kitten with four
white
paws that was found with his litter mates by a York police officer in a
box
tossed in a ditch. He was only about three weeks old at the time so we
had to
wait until he was six weeks old to take him home. What a character he
has
turned out to be. There never has been a better companion cat. He has a
real
need to be right with us and follows me from room to room, especially
on
cleaning day. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. I am
including a
few photos so you can see what a beautiful cat he grew up to be.
This winter by mother, Virginia E., passed away at the age of 87 in Iowa. She was a true animal lover and was always especially fond of cats. Please accept this contribution toward your work in her name and use it in whatever way it is most needed. I know she would have approved of it being used for such a good cause.
Thank you for all the important work you do and for especially rescuing a little tabby kitten four years ago. We love Tucker to pieces.
Sincerely,
Jane L.

This was Ruby the Golden Retriever Mix. When we got this dog I thought there is no hope for her. They had been kept in a pen all of their lives and really needed work. For those of you who work day shifts you probably remember how she walked on a leash. Not well to say the least. I think we made progress with her for her weeks at app and she found a great family! Lucky dog!
Finally got some good pictures of Maggie. She's incredibly sweet and is really settling in well. She and Jackson like to romp in the yard and she thinks all of his toys are hers also. He's patient, but he steals them back when she's not looking. We're still getting her used to walking. She does great on her own, but is a wreck in a group. Some days, patience is a virtue! We love her to death and wanted to forward some pictures to you. Thanks so much for the work you do!
John and Laura

Sarah (Dixie) is doing well. She loved riding in the truck. We know she was comfortable when she stretched out on the floor of the back sit and napped.

Dear LaMoine & Staff
Thank you for letting me
adopt
Emmet. He
has brought such joy to my life. Everyone who meets him agrees, he is
one “special cat.”Emmet is a very lily cat
& full of
personality.
He absolutely plays over my guests and wants to be instant friends with
everyone. You couldn't ask for a friendlier, charming cat.
Keep up the wonderful work you are doing you are making a lot of people (and cats) happy.
All my thanks! Hannah, Emmet's person
Dear LaMoine & Cat Sanctuary Crew,
Thank you very much for
taking care
of
me at the Cat Sanctuary. I was so happy to have people to play with,
love, a warm place to stay & food! Here are some pictures of me
in
my new home. I love my person very much and she spoils me! I repay her
by sleeping under the covers with her at night and making her laugh
with my silly kitten antics I will never forget the kindness you showed
me when I didn't have my own home. You are all doing a super job and
each cat who passes through your loving care owes you at least 1 of
their 9 lives! I hope you enjoy the pictures. Thank you again for
caring for me and finding me a “forever home.”
Love Emmet Happy Cat Pieper
Hi LaMoine! I wanted to send a couple updated pics of Boo to you. He is healthy, happy and quite the little stinker! He has truly added spunk to my life and is a very affectionate kitty.

Hi! Just letting you know that Corky is doing great with us!! Madison just adores him and she's always hugging him and he follows her wherever she goes! :-) we also found out the first night that he snores! :) it's adorable!! I think he likes our acreage..he is mostly indoors but when we go outdoors he just runs & runs! Than he will go to the front door when he's ready to go back inside!! We are very happy with corky! thank you for letting us adopt him!!
Sincerely,
Gaby
I
wanted to contact you to let you know what an amazing contribution
Buttercup has been to our lives. She's the center of my
attention
and
the captivator of my heart. I'm so grateful we got her at a
young
age, so we can watch the last of her playful puppy side grow into the
amazing, adventurous, loving, intelligent dog that she is.We can't thank you enough for bringing her into our lives.
All the best,
Tiffany & Mike

I adopted Griffy about a year ago. He had problems with his eye and had to have it removed before I could bring him home. He recovered well and even sat perfectly still while I removed his adorable pink stitches. He had no problems adjusting to having just one eye and I often don't even think about it until someone mentions it. He has become a great companion for my older cat tiger. He is still not so sure about the new puppy I recently took in, but the pup is still determined to sway his opinion of her. Thanks for the work you do!
SB
I
have been going to write you for the past several months to let
you know how much we have enjoyed our kitty we adopted a year ago this
past Christmas.
Just to let you know
Skeeter and
Sadie are doing wonderful. They are both in the house and I htink this
is where they will stay at least until it warms up. It is way to cold
outside for them to be out there.

merry Christmas to all my friends at the dog shelter
Be patience all of my dog friends each of you will find a loving home in the mean time you are with people who care and will take good care of you.
We hope you have a very
Merry Christmas and
a safe and Happy New Year!
The twins are doing great! They're so cute and playful! Thank you for
letting us come and get them early! Lindsey & Justin
LaMoine
We just wanted to wish you & everyone at the Cat Sanctuary
a Merry Christmas! We are forever grateful for everything you
do
to
help all the cats and kittens who can't help themselves. It
takes
a
special person to provide the dedicated care that these animals
need.
You truly are their guardian angel. We also wanted to let you
know
that Gypsy is still doing well in Lincoln. She is as sweet as
ever,
cuddling with us as often as possible. She also has a sister,
Addison
(a German Shepard - Rotweiler puppy) They enjoy each other's
company
for the most part, but Gypsy tires of their play time faster than
Addison does. Again, I wish we could give more than we
are.
We had to
give a little something though because we couldn't forget about you
this time of year. We will send more when we can. Thanks
again
for all
you do! Mike & Staci
We adopted Slick one year
ago on Christmas
Day from York Adopt a Pet.He is such a joy and a true member of our family. He is pretty sure he is the "Alpha" male of the house...as likes for us all to follow the
Jack Russel Property Laws:
If I like it, it's mine
If it's in my mouth, it's mine
If I had it a little while ago, it's mine
If I can take it from you, it's mine
If it looks just like mine, it's mine
If I saw it first, it's mine
If it's edible, it's mine
If you have something and put it down, it's mine
If I chew something up, all of the pieces are mine
If I get tired of it, it's yours
If I want it back...it's
mineHe owns everything in the house, especially our hearts!
Thank you for helping us find this wonderful addition to our family!!!
Jamy, Amber, Mikayla, Shane and Slick
I
thought that I would update you about Ozzie since we got him a year
ago. I was expecting him to be a good dog but he is not. He is a
wonderful dog. He has grown to enormous size 100 pounds and taller
than me on his hind legs. Despite his size he is the gentlest
boy
ever. He sleeps in my bed with me sometimes...how its possible that we
both fit I don't know...and he cuddles right along with Maddie. He gets
along with Maddie and Laddie perfectly and new dogs as well. We have
all sorts of dogs visiting him. From chihuahuas at the dog park to my
mom's collegue's Great Dane. Suprisingly Ozzie is only about 1 1/2
inches shorter than Bruno the Great Dane. I started Obedience class in
April and the county fair dog show was last week. I think you would be
excited to know that ozzie got 3rd Place!! A purple Ribbon! Maddie got
1st Place, Grand Championship, in Agility...I was super proud. I want
to thank you once again for all the work you do at YAAP...Without you
we wouldn't have our babies that we care so much for...Thanks.Shelbie
I wanted to drop you a line to let you know how Jazz is doing. We love her to no end! She is always a happy dog and takes life as it comes. She had a lot of fun at the Seward County fair. Bailey showed her in three different classes. In Obedience they received a red...we knew this is probably where she would place as she hasn't had lots of training. In Showmanship, they received a blue ribbon and Reserve Champion. In Agility, they received a purple ribbon and Grand Champion. They also had gotten 100 out of 100 points for the class and had time to spare.
We had
a rough couple of days at
first, but now Bonnie and
Clyde have both made up with Capone aka Mike and love to give him
baths, and
play!
Both Bonnie
and
Thanks
so much for Everything you and
the York Adopt A Pet
do!
Terri

We
just wanted to let you know that
Gypsy has adjusted well to her new home. She is feeling much better
these days too. As you already know, she is so sweet & she
loves to cuddle. She is the perfect cat for us! Everyone who has met
her has fallen in love with her too. We love to come home to her after
a long day at work! We generally spend our evenings & weekends
cuddling & watching TV. We've discovered that she really likes
shows with real animals in them We don't know what we did without her!
We really appreciate everything you've done for Gypsy and the other cats! It takes a very special person to do what you do! We strongly believe in your cause and that's why we are sending a little donation. After all we wouldn't have this sweet addition to our family if it weren't for you! Thanks again for everything!
Staci & Mike
Hi! Just thought it was time to send an update. I adopted Sophie (formally Savannah) last June and I am so happy I did. My little Sophie has been nothing but a joy and I can't imagine life without her now. She's always there to greet me when I get home and curls up on my pillow with me at night when I sleep. When I got her she was just a little peanut but she is getting big and fluffy :) I often joke that it is a good thing she is so darn cute because she is also very mischievous and keeps me on my toes. She has her own big personality and I'm not sure she really meows I think it's more of a squeak and she does quite well standing on her back legs :) I just want to thank you for what you guys do; you bring so much happiness into so many lives, including mine. Thank you!!!!!
Meghan

We
adopted Amos from you on
February 20th and wanted to give you an update. (He
was originally named Randy, but my wife's ex-husband's name was Randy,
thus the needed change!) I knew Amos was a keeper right away
as he never even made a whimper on the drive from York to Fairbury.
THANK
YOU so much for allowing Amos
to enter our lives. I tell him every day he is a blessed
creature who won the doggy lottery when he came to live at our house.
I promised I would up date you
on
Ryan. I took him to an
eye specialist in Omaha, Dr. Berryman and he did two surgeries on
Ryan. The first one he removed follicles from his eyelid that
were
scratching his eyeball and the second he did reconstructive surgery on
his eyelids. Dr. Berryman did a wonderful job now there are
no more
eye infections and his eyes look just like a normal cats. You
could
never tell he was attacked by a dog. Once his eyes healed he
started
to play like a kitten again. He has finally made my home his
home.
The other cat I got from you guys a year ago is also doing
well. When
I got him he had ringworm. That has now cleared up and he has
the
shiniest coat I have ever seen.Just thought I'd send you a couple of new pictures. We changed her name to Sati Mae since we had already named one of our former dogs Foxy. She is doing pretty darn good and is quite the cutie. She had her first
Vet visit on Tuesday. Her next visit is Feb. 5th. Our Vet can't tell for sure yet what breed/breeds she is yet either. Did you find out for sure what her mother is yet? Only having a problem getting her to understand "no" and not biting. She is a very stubborn little thing so fits in here quite nicely!
Thanks again!
Deb & Duane

My
husband and I adopted
our two dogs, Annika and Hurley (formerly know as Beethoven), last Year
around this time. I
have attached a picture of
them with my husband.
They
are the best
companions.
Annika
has displayed a moody personality
which is
complete opposite of Hurley’s happy-go-lucky attitude. They
seem to balance each other out nicely.
They are
relishing life on the acreage and can find trouble in every corner.
Sincerely,
Attached
are some pictures of Nick. We have tweaked his name to "Slick" (He
doesn't seem to mind) He is SUCH a good boy! We just love him
SOOO Much! He has barely been here 24 hours and he is already
a
part of the family. What a wonderful Christmas Present!!!Thank you again for helping us find him - he will be spoiled rotten!!!
Jamy, Amber, Kayla & Shane

Just a quick update on our adoption of Marla (Sammi). She is good girl. She even likes the kitty. We couldn't of asked for a better puppy. Thank so very much for taking care of her so that we could adopt her. She is a momma's girl and loves her very much. Enclosed are a couple of pictures of her and momma.

Just wanted to give you a quick
update
and a couple of new
pictures of Ray. He's still doing
good. I bought him a small dog
harness and a leash so he can safely go outside for
walks. Apparently he
was an outdoor kitty before as he seems to really like being
outside -- even when it's cold!!!! All the rest of
our cats (Homer, Pip,
Sara Smile, Amos, Kali B, Rachel, Sophie, Toby and Ellie) seem to like
him, or at least in Sara's case, tolerate him! Most
days, Ray hangs
out sleeping in Kent's chair in the kitchen, probably because we have a
fire going inMy boyfriend and I came to adopt coco yesterday,
12/10/07. It was
during the ice storm, and I really wanted a new kitten. We were
planning on coming up there, but weren't sure which kitten we wanted. I
saw coco on the website, she was one of the kittens I liked. But when
Jared and i got there, we knew she was the one. We barely looked at any
other kittens. She was such a good girl on the ride home. She was
shaking a little bit but i held her and covered her up, when i took her
out of her carrier. She was nervouse when we got home. She slept or
tried to sleep in the bathroom on a blanket i gave her. She was sad so
i got up only 5 hours after i had finally got to sleep. i stayed in the
bathroom with her and rubbed her ears so she calmed down and fell
asleep. Today we both took a nap on the couch together, and I was
surprised how cuddly and loving she is. I am excited to see how she
does in the future. She is my new love and i cant seem to put her down
or listen to her meow. Shes been sitting on my lap and sleeping all
day. She doesnt seem to want to leave me alone! That is perfectly fine
with me! Thanks for our new baby coco!Heather and Jerod
Here
is a Christmas picture of our
kitty we adopted from you. His name
was Groucho, but we like to call him Moose, short for
moostache. He is
very happy with us and gets along great with the doggy. We
love him bunches, thanks for your service to find homes for
these cute guys!
The Falls Family
We
adopted
shy on July 8th 2007 from YAAP.
I
just
wanted to let you know that Shy has been a wonderful addition to our
family.
He
immediately adjusted to our home and has
been a great pal to everyone in our household.
My son adores him and the
affection is returned (as long
as Shy isn’t
being chased by him). J
He
sleeps with
Josh and me every night and is not afraid to let you know that
it’s time to pet
him.
He follows us
around the house just
like a puppy would and he is definitely very lovable when we first come
home in
the evenings.
We
are very happy with
this wonderfully loving addition to our family and we would just like
to say
thank you for bringing him into our lives.
Ray is doing wonderful! He's such anawesome cat! He figured out the whole
house in hardly any
time at all; it was like he had always lived
here! I've attached a
couple of pictures that I took of him tonight, lounging on our bed and
in a chair he likes to sleep in. He wasn't in the
mood to play "movie
star" tonight and didn't really want to cooperate for pictures.TJ

Gus and I found each other on
December 27, 2005. When he came home
with me, he was 6 weeks old, weighed less than a pound and I was
terrified that I would lose him under some furniture if I took my eyes
of him for one moment. He just turned two years old and WOW has he
changed. We call him "The Puma" because he is no longer that tiny
little ball of fur - he's up to 20 pounds! I am quite certain that he
is the most mischievous kitty that has ever come out
of York. He loves
to play pranks in the middle of the night such as opening doors and
slamming them shut. But he also loves to curl up on my pillow with me
when the pranks are done. I can't imagine my life without him. I have
attached a couple pictures - the first is of him when he was a baby and
the second is of him today.
Just wanted to let you
know that Ray Charles made it to his
new home in Beatrice safe and sound. He rode REALLY
well in the truck
all the way here. I've never had a cat ride that
well on their first
trip before! He's getting used to the kitchen and office for
starters. I
just put him in the kennel and Kelsie fed him his canned food you
sent. He was busy snarfing it up when I came in to
use the
computer! Thanks for Ray! We love him already!!
He says to have you say hi to all his buddies for him, too!
Thanks again- he's a GREAT dog!
Robyn

This is Max & Jason that were adopted from the York Adopt-A-Pet Cat Sanctuary.
One Happy Family
Just
wanted to send you an email
to update you on Taylor.. I won't ask if you remember him because i
know you do after bottle feeding him..
He has adjusted just fine, he is very spoiled of course and he loves to play chase with the dog, they are great friends now and sometimes even lay beside each other..
Taylor is very stubborn and
holds
his own... he takes NOTHING from the dog.. You would think he was here
first.
He has a great schedule that he has adjusted to just fine and has never been outside other then when I wrap him in a baby blanket and take him on the porch swing with me.. Then he just goes right to sleep when we do this.. ha;;
Boy does he love to sleep, but when he's up you know it!!
He has lots of toys and many beds..
His favorite place to sleep is in the window, I open it every morning for him and he lays inside..
We can't thank you enough for him and we're ALL enjoying him very much, EVEN MY HUSBAND!!! ha;;
Thanks for all you have done to bring him to a nice loving home and into our arms..
I have sent a few pictures I thought you would enjoy..
one of him climbing my inside trees.. Of course he does NOT get into trouble for this as I said he is very spoiled.. ha;;
Thanks again,
The W Family...

Just wanted you to know how much I love my precious babies. I did take
them to the vet and I gave them different names. I named Nelson, Panda
Bear (call him Panda"). His black was so black and his white, so white.
He also walks bow-legged like a bear and has such big paws. He's a real
character!Sophia, I changed to Saydie. The both know their names cause I talk to them all the time and use their names. Now I wish I would have called Saydie, Clover cause she looks like the cat they used to put on the bag of Kitty Clover potato chips. She answers to Saydie though.
I am so happy with these two cats. They walked right in the house and made themselves at home. You know how cats are! They will always be indoor cats cause I don't want anything to happen to them outdoors.
My dog, Lyla is accepting them too although they are not good buddies yet, they do get along better all the time. They're all jealous of my attention too. Saydie must have been a house cat before cause she knows to come running when the refrigerator door opens. Panda, on the other hand doesn't pay any attention to that. They are different from each other in a lot of ways, but that's just like people with their different personalties. They didn't like each other at first either. Saydie would chase after Panda and take a bite out of his black fur. He will never try to fight back, just tries to find a place to hide. Little by little they are getting along better. They sometimes even lay on the floor together but they don't want to be touching each other. Kids!
I hope you can find more good homes for all your kitties, We really like ours.
Marie

I want to take this opportunity to thank some very special people in my
life: Karen & Dave Peters who found me and fed me and LaMoine
Roth
who gave me shelter until my new mommy came to adopt me. I can't
remember much of what brought me to Karen & Dave's house; but I
am
really grateful for your love and kindness. What can I say about
LaMoine who took care of me and all the other cats until we could find
a new home...what a special lady.Mommy and I are adjusting quite well to each other. I had a tough few days here originally and spent the first three days hiding. Other than that, there was the time I had been here about six weeks and I slipped out of the house at 5:30am when mommy went to get the paper. Mommy was frantic trying to find me! She was outside in her pj's in the rain calling my name and finally found me in the neighbor's yard. Then I ran to a contraption in their yard that looked like part of a brooder house and just sat there out of mommy's reach. Heck, I was dry--mommy was the one in the rain. Mommy got down on her side in the mud and still couldn't reach me. I thought we were playing a game!! Finally, I let mommy catch me and hold me and love on me; boy did that feel good! We were both all muddy and went back into the house. I got my feet and legs washed and mommy had a shower. I learned my lesson--haven't gotten outside again and don't intend to as mommy says "no" and I back up whenever she goes outside.
Mommy says I have been learning a lot since I came here. I am still learning not to pay attention to the birds and am trying to sleep through the night so I don't wake mommy up--that is a hard one! Oh yes, I need to tell you about the time I jumped on the parakeet's cage--I bounced out of the room and under the bed because I knew I had done something wrong. The cage ended up in three pieces, the roof hanging from the hook on the ceiling, the sides were collapsed on the floor and the bottom of the cage was on the floor. Of course, food and water were everywhere. One of the parakeets was in the kitchen and the other was hiding behind a plant. Learned another lesson on that one too!
Thank you again guys!!
Jerome, now Joey aka Joe Joe
PS. Mommy wants to say something...I believe I shared by story with you about praying for a pet that was "heaven sent" and Joey truly is!!
Deb
After
reading the story about
"Precious" in yesterday's paper, I just had to say thank you for all
you do for these little kittys.
Enclosed is a picture of Princess & Abby, a special needs young lady I take care of during the summer. Now that I'm back at school, Abby will call me and her first questions is "How's Princess?"
Princess is quite a little character. I just finshed brushing her hair and now I hear her playing with her toys. Use this donation, in any way that you would like for the kittys. Thanks again for all you do!
Pam

Here are
our sleeping beauties.
Everyone is getting along perfectly. Quinn(who is now Ozzie) is
bringing the puppy out in both Maddie and Laddie. I'm starting leash
obedience with Ozzie and it appears that he might just turn into next
year's blue ribbon dog.Ozzie has already decided his sleeping spot...
right between Maddie and Laddie!! Thanks for everything!!Shelbie
I want to thank you for Jill the
kitten. I have named her Mittinz! She
is a lot of fun. Thank you.Emma

We adopted Daisy new name
Sheiva
about a year ago now. We are just
sending some updated pictures of her and her sister Kush. The two are inseparable and Sheiva has grown up to be a very intelligent and loving dog.
Sorry
we couln't wait to send
pictures of Taylor..
We stopped to buy him a new bed that is sooo soft!! We also bought him some new toys. He is doing fine so far and had a good nap on his new bed. He seems to be getting along with the dog o.k. Taylor doesn't run from her and that's great so (Cookie) our dog has already learned to leave him alone.. ALREADY!!!
It almost made me cry to see him laying in his bed sleeping.. I'm glad he can rest in a good home..
Thanks so much!!!
Kathy

Gail,On June 22 2007 I adopted "TIGER" now known as "GRACIE" from York Adopt-a-Pet via Lamoyne and I wanted to thank you for allowing me to bring this wonderful young lady into my home! Because she was "skittish" she exited the pet carrier in the morning when I brought her home, promptly hid in a bookcase but I could see her and touched her head thru-out the day and low and behold - by night she came out!! She now spends her days walking around the house and talking, she lays on her window seat at the farmhouse and looks out to watch all the birds bathing in the birdbath and eating from the feeders, she watches raccoons going across the yard and squirrels chasing each other, she plays with her several mouse toys and anything else she can get ahold of that looks fun, I'm there to wrestle with her at her pleasure, she drinks out of 2 tabletop fountains that previously were for decoration, and sits on my lap whenever she walks by - even if just for a moment so I can scratch her neck or ears!! She is GREAT -
Nancy
I've
been wanting to do this for a
long time. Today I am snowbound at home, so here I
am. I am sending
you the picture of Major when we got him from you & also a
picture
of Major as he looks today.
He is a pretty smart little
dog
because when my husband shuts off the TV to leave for work, Major goes
to his cage & wait. He does that for me too. He is a
late sleeper
too. Our other dog that we lost used to hear ANY LITTLE NOISE
&
howl until we let him out. Major can sleep til 9am if we let
him.
Here
are some pictures of
Myah. I’ve been having trouble with my e-mail
so you might get an
e-mail from me with pictures more than once (sorry)!
Myah seems to really enjoy the farm. She’s been doing a lot of exploring. We really enjoy having her here too. Thanks for letting us adopt her! Bev

Just
thought I'd send a couple of pictures of Cubby
(Mr. Cool) and Bear (David) while I also updated you about
Cubby. He
has good days and bad days for feeling good. He started
coughing a
little bit after the last time I talked with you but we are SURE that
he is trying to cough up hairballs. I finally bought him dry
catfood
that also is supposed to help prevent hairballs so we'll see how that
works. Also now (before changing cat food) he has diarrhea at
times.
It has never been a solid stool so I don't know about what's causing
that either. Today he did cough up some hair so maybe that
also has to
do with his stool problem...I don't know. We hope to get him
straightened out because we totally love both of the cats. My
husband
also loves them and he doesn't normally like cats that much.Margaret

We have a
new addition to our
family! This is Dante. He is a 3-4
year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We adopted him from a shelter
in
York. The cats are not sure what to think
yet. Bobbi is a little
curious, but Cookie has been hiding since I brought him home.
He is a
very sweet dog, but needs a little obedience training. He liked
me from the start, but he LOVED both Jim and Alex as soon as he met
them. As soon as Jim sits down, Dante is right
there. And I think he
thinks of Alex as his long lost brother, they have had fun today going
on a walk and playing. We are all very happy to have him in
our family!
Thought I would send you some pictures of Valerie now a week
later. She's quite the kitten!! The first few days
she wasn't eating
or drinking much and not leaving our sides but now she loves to run
around the house and is eating and drinking great! She LOVES
to sit on
the bottom of all the rolling chairs in the house and run through your
feet. We're having a lot of fun with her!! :) Susan

I was going to write
to you sooner, but I have been enjoying my new addition. The trip back
was fine. He was good as gold. We have named him Mack. The leash thing
is quite an issue with him. Its going to take a lot of hard work, but I
know he will come around. He took very well to Samson and Samson likes
him as well. Mack follows him everywhere. I see a happier dog in Samson
now. Since we lost his mate over a year ago he has been quite
depressed. Now I see life coming back into him once more. I wish I
could have taken Mack's brother Moses. It was so hard to choose. He was
a sweetheart as well. I hope he finds a good home because he will make
someone a great dog.

I just wanted to let you know that Shy has been a wonderful addition to our family. He immediately adjusted to our home and has been a great pal to everyone in our household. My son adores him and the affection is returned (as long as Shy isn’t being chased by him).
He sleeps with Josh and me every night and is not afraid to let you know that it’s time to pet him. We are very happy with this wonderfully loving addition to our family and would just like to say thank you for bringing him into our lives.
We searched for the perfect kitty for about a month before we found Shy. When we went to see all of the cats that York Adopt-A-Pet had for adoption, they were all very sweet, but Shy just kept coming back to me. When he let my three year old pick him up without a fuss, I knew he was the one for us. We took him home that day and he was right at home as soon as he set foot out of the carrier. He wasn't "shy" at all. :) He didn't have any trouble adjusting and he is the perfect fit for our family.
Thank you Petfinder and York Adopt-A-Pet!!
Alicia
Thanks so much for taking time out of your evening to meet us at the facility. We were very impressed by it. We couldn't have chosen a better puppy to adopt. The kids adore him (named him Bandit) and he seems to follow them all around.
Thanks
Nicole

It's been a little over 2
months
since we brought Captian Jack home.
He is adjusting well to his new life here in Omaha. Jack loves playing
with his 'big sister' Nellie and getting into everything! I just
wanted to thank you for bringing Jack into my life, he's a great
addition to our family.

I came in to your shelter to look for a companion. After much consideration, I stumbled upon a tiny gray explorer who wanted to get into everything in as little time as possible. I reached down and patted her head and she poofed out her tail. It was love at first bite! I really liked her and was told that she was a little young to go, but I had enough experience with kittens that I could go ahead and take her. So, the little gray spitfire became known as Pookie. For
the first 24 hours, I was worried that she wasn't going to work out. She seemed upset, listless, and wanted to hide away from everything. Patiently, I waited and I watched hoping she would decide that she wanted to be with me. I went to bed that night thinking that if she didn't show some signs of adjusting that I would have to take her back
even if it broke my heart. At 6 a.m. the next morning, I awoke to the sounds of crying and felt the covers move. Pookie had decided that she was a long lost member of the family and had finally found her way home. She couldn't contain her excitement! She was purring and "talking" and snuggling! I couldn't believe it, it was as if she had
been there her whole life. After a couple of months, we took her to the vet to get her spayed and declawed. That was a very scary experience for us both. At first we thought everything was ok and then her incision swelled and got what looked to be infected. Turns out Pookie has an allergy to absorbable stitches! Dr. Ryan at Gloystein Vet fixed her back up and now she is in excellent health. Well, that was a year ago in May. Pookie is now a year old and still as much the explorer as she was when I fell in love with her. She loves to lay in the sun, play in the bathtub (without water), chase
moths, snuggle, and her favorite thing to do is be right in the middle of whatever I'm doing! She is absolutely fabulous and I couldn't imagine being without her. Thank you for such a wonderful companion.

Keith and I just want to thank-you so much for letting us adopt the last pyrenees puppy...Lily, ( that is what we named her) She is an awsome puppy, and our other dogs Riley and Schnappsie are getting along with her beautifully...
She is a beautiful baby, and she is going to have a wonderful home, we promise..no outside living for any of our "kids" and she will be spoiled.
It is my way of giving a puppy a new life, as I am giving myself a new life by not smoking...what a wonderful way to spend the cigerette money.
Thank-you again.
Ellen and Keith

Lily is settling in nicely
here. I thought our other kitten was being too rough with
her. But
everytime I shooed Gracie away from Lily, Lily would go chasing after
her. So I guess she likes rough housing. Thank you
so much for such a
lovely girl. She is a sweetheart.
My mom just adopted me from
York
Adopt-A-Pet. Im about 12 weeks
old now. I was a Christmas gift that somebody
decided they did not
want, so I was given to the shelter. Im a Shi tzu-Schnauzer mix. My
attitude is pure Schnauzer! In about 1 week I was totally house
trained! It has snowed so much I don't know if I like walks yet, but I
definitely love jumping around in the snow in the backyard!Remember to check out the shelter for pets if you are looking.
He is such a special guy and we love him dearly. His MySpace page: Thank you for everything,
Thank you for being there and taking care of my "baby girl" till we found her and brought her home!

Sid is doing just great he is such a well behaved fat cat. He has a new buddy her name is Cassie. Some boys in my little town were looking for her a home the boys said they couldn't find her mom. Cassie loves Sid, Sid loves to groom her and chase her. It's good for the big guy to get moving.
Thanks for remembering us and letting me know about the website.

You
probably won’t remember us, but we contacted you back in
April of
2005 looking for a kitten. We are from Hastings. We
had
seen a picture of a litter on Petfinder.com. We had hoped to
adopt the tabby with white mittens. When we visited with you,
we
were disappointed to learn that the kitten was already spoken
for. We left you our names and you said you would let us know
if
some more kittens came in. We were so shocked when you called
back in a few minutes. You had checked with the lady who had
spoken for the kitten & she said she didn’t mind if
we took
him as she was just wanting some farm cats and didn’t care
which
ones she got. That is how Tucker came to join our family. His litter was only about 3 weeks old when they were found in a box in a ditch by a highway patrolman near York. We picked him up from your cat sanctuary when he was about 6 weeks old.
We just wanted you to know what a wonderful addition Tucker has been to our family. We just love him to pieces. He has so much personality and always has us laughing about something. He can scamper up our 12 foot Christmas tree faster than any squirrel. He is quite a character.
We are sending along a check to help you with your work. Please use it in whatever way is most needed.
Thank you for TUCKER...........Jane & Kreg
My husband and I adopted Sally, a 3 year old Lab-Basenji mix from your shelter over Thanksgiving weekend 2006. I just wanted to let you know she is doing great! In June of 2006 I had to make the heart breaking decision of putting my 15 year old Siberian Husky we adopted when she was year old from the Humane Society here in Lincoln, to sleep. Then I was pushed into adopting a West Highland White Terrier too soon after that decision. Well my son and the Westie did not get along. Fortunately, I was able to find him a better home with a good friend so I can still visit him. Needless to say after losing 2 dogs within just months I had a huge hole in my heart. I never wanted to get another dog. But our poor Lab was getting lonely for someone to play with in the backyard, so I started looking at rescue sites on line. I am so glad I found your website and found Sally. I met with Gail at the kennel, and fell in love with Sally as soon as I saw her. I was sooooo glad we got to take her home. When we got home to Lincoln, as soon as she came into our house, she claimed her spot on our loveseat. She was so calm and just acted like she had lived there for years. Sally gets along wonderfully with our 4 year old lab and they play all the time. Sally and I go for daily walks and she just amazes me with how much she acts like a cat! She crouches down on the sidewalk and "stalks" squirrels, she can squeeze very easily underneath fences and cars so we have to watch that. It just makes me smile how much fun she has going on walks, exploring everything, and we do have plenty of squirrel's in our neighborhood for her to chase. Every night she sleeps between my husband and I when we first go to bed. Someday we are going to have to get another bed, maybe a king size bed since we now have 2 dogs that love to sleep up there with us. The only bad habit she has is chewing, we have lost a blanket, a towel, my husband lost a pair of shorts, and my son lost 2 of his stuffed animals to her chewing habit. But what dog doesn't like to chew? So she now has tons of toys. Between all my son's toys and her toys, and the Lab's toys, our house looks like a toy store. We just love her so much. She's bonded with me a little closer than to my husband, she doesn't bark, but she yodel's like the basenji's do. She loves to snuggle in my lap, oh and my son approves of her too. He actually hugged her around her neck the day we adopted her, so that also helped us decide that she would be coming home with us. She is so gentle with my son who is 2 years old. He lays on her and she just lays there and patiently waits for him to be done picking on her! When we brought her home, she never had a single accident in the house, we do kennel her while we are at work due to her curiosity would probably get the best of her, so I at least know she is safe while we are not there, and when we are home she does have a big backyard she can run around in with our Lab. We did have to teach her how to go up and down stairs, she was skittish about stairs, like she had never had to go up or down them before, but now she races upstairs to our bedroom and back down again without a second thought. I couldn't have asked for a better dog with a better temperament, and I know I couldn't have got a better purebred dog from a breeder either no matter how much money I would've spent. Believe me I did the research on all the dog breeds. I didn't find one purebred dog that had all the qualities I was looking for. But Sally did. She is such a good fit in our family.
Thank you so much for rescuing her from her previous owner, she will never be chained up outside without shelter ever again. She'll always have a place inside our house, hearts, and in our bed!

I
just wanted to send some pictures of Gus
(formerly known as Timmy). He has been so much fun and he has quite the
personality. He will only drink water out of tumbler glasses and dips
his paw in before drinking to make sure the water
is in there. He has gotten
quite
vocal but still purrs every night when I come home from work. He sleeps
on my head and bats at my face every morning at 6:30 a.m. No need for an alarm clock anymore. These pictures were taken about a month ago so he is MUCH bigger now. He's already five pounds! He's been to the vet a couple times and all the doctors and nurses agree he
is the cutest kitten they have ever seen:) I just wanted to give you an update and let you know that he is doing well and is very loved. I have even converted my friends who don't like cats...they think he is
pretty great! THANKS!

This is the Chug and his new home and playmate.

Well it has been a really great and very exhausting 1st day for the former Lucy. 1st she got another name change. ( the 2nd in one day!) She is now the lovely "Lola" She slept and snored through her 1st night and did not have an accident! We went shopping this morning and she got a new Husker shirt for the big game and a matching rhine stone collar, and some new toys. She got a new purple leash and harness and a lime green doggy purse-she loves it! She spent the day with me at the nursing home going from room to room greeting everyone and finally fell asleep for the afternoon in a recliner with a lady that just loves her. She snuggled up right to her chin and she was so cute we snapped a few pictures. She got her nails painted by the beautician that works here-a lovely red to match her shirt and collar. Thank you for helping Lola and I come together. I hope I make her as happy as she has made me and the residents today.

Hi,
it's me Charlie. My new name is Chez. I have grown so much since I
moved in with my adopted family. I really love it here.I thought I would share a little of Charlie with you. He has been so much fun. I am glad I picked him when I came out to adopt a cat. He is really a great cat. He loves all the attention he can get and he's great with my daughter. Kylee

I'm not sure if you'll
remember us
or not, but we were the family that adopted "Jasper" from you last
winter. We actually renamed him when we got home to Kai
(short for
Cairo) since he looked so sphynx like :) Anyway, he is doing
wonderfully in our home and has developed a very close friendship with
our other adopted kitty, Beren. They don't do anything
without each
other - even shredding the toilet paper in our home has become a "group
activity" with Beren keeping a watchout for us, and Kai doing the
shredding. Other than the cleanup afterwards, it is comical
to watch.
We've maintained all his health needs, and have a wonderful vet here
who puts up with my fussing over our kitties (they're pretty
spoiled).
Kai's added quite a bit of weight since he's been with us, and looks
beautiful. I attached some recent pictures I took of him, one
by
himself in the kitchen, and the other with Beren on the
chair. I also
wanted to mention that his temperament is wonderful. He is
very laid
back, and very cuddly - and most importantly he puts up with our
daughters antics and is very patient with her. I'm glad we
adopted
him. Thank you and take care.
Just
wanted to send you another
pi
cture
of Odie. He is doing so well.
He doesn't go in
his pet taxi at all now. He has the run of the house when we go to work
and he sleeps with Ally at night. He is such a wonderful dog. We really
love him and are so very pleased with him.
Thanks again for finding him. He is a wonderful addition to our family JO
Here are a couple pictures of Odie. He looks pretty comfy don't you think.

I wanted to say that what you guys do for these animals is nothing short of amazing! Half of these animals have probably never known what it is like to be loved.
Yesterday my fiancée and I adopted Missy, a smaller framed tortoise colored cat. From what LeMoine told me, she had been removed from her previous owner's house by court order and I was kind of afraid of how she would react when we brought her home to Lincoln with me. When I got her home and opened the carrier, she flew right into my fiancé's arms and did nothing but spend the night cuddling with us on our living room floor, wrapped up in blankets while we watched National Geographic. She is a sweetheart and I would not give Missy Jane up for the world!
Thank you for all you guys do
to make
this world a better place, one animal at a time.
Thanks!
Mandy
Just wanted to let you know we absolutely love Lexus the two year old Boston Terrier we adopted yesterday! She slept between my daughter and our 4 year old cat all night. Kids & I love her!!
When I saw the picture of Rhett from the litter of Golden Retriever / Poodle cross puppies, I had to send this picture of Cassie, formerly known as Melanie, who is a littermate. After some initial health issues and eye surgery, she has been a joy to our family. She is a goofball, full of enthusiasm, loves everyone, smart, and a large lap dog. She has a "sister", Dixie, who is a Schipperke and definitely the alpha dog.

We wanted to share our photos with you as this was a wonderful story
We
adopted a Siberian Husky (whom
you know as Kanook). I just wanted to email you to let you
know how happy he is with us and his new big brother Everest.
We have re-named him Yukon. As you can see in the pictures,
he loves his new pal. When you get them together you can barely tell
them apart! We've been having fun introducing him to treats
and toys, when he first saw them, he looked at them like they were
foreign objects! It didn't take him long to claim a stuffed
duck, though! He still has a problem accepting treats, but
we're working on it. No dog should ever have to go without
love, treats, toys, and hugs! His personality is really sweet
also. He just can't seem to stop giving us
'kisses'. I can't wait to really bond with him
and
see him blossom. I
also have already looked into obedience classes with the same trainer
that helped us with Ev. I am happy to say he sits, begs, lays
down, and tries to shake. It's hilarious how he looks to his
big brother for pointers! Husky see, husky do!
Anyways, we couldn't be happier & more excited about our new
addition. Thank you York Adopt-A-Pet for all you do!
Love,
Josh, Jenny, Everest, & Yukon
PS- Yuki is the dog in the red harness!
Just
got these photos from Reba's new owner..... Reba is renamed to "Acacia"
and is having a great time playing with her new buddies: a 2

old Mal and a 10 mos. old Great Dane....Looks like things are still going well.... -Enjoy!

Alaskan Malamute RescueI adopted Ryleigh from YAAP 12-02 I was heartbroken after the death of my ten year old pug Jessie, my folks had bought me a six month old pug puppy 10-02 a week after the death of Jessie. Raven was very lonely and needed a friend so I got onto petfinders and noticed Tassy she was so cute and I called Gail right away she told me someone else was interested in her but after I explained to her my parents had adopted a Boxer from them a year earlier and I had a fenced yard she said Tassy was mine and I could come get her, I made the trip from Lincoln and adopted Tassy who was called Tazzy by her previous owners. I renamed her Ryleigh she was an owner surrender due to illness in the family and Ryleigh was hard to handle. She initially was a pretty ill dog she ended up with puppy demadectic mange, pancreatitis and entroprian of her eyelids after a few months of vet care Ryleigh has done wonderful. I have had her for over 3 years and love her to death she is so energetic and full of life. Thanks Gail for allowing me to adopt such a precious baby girl.
Love,
DeLana, Raven and Ryleigh
Thought you would like to know how Buster is getting along.
He was excellent on the 5 hour trip home. He was fairly aware of the cars and trucks passing the car on the highway, but soon acclimated to the noises. We made many stops, including one at Petco in Lincoln. I’m sure he was disoriented and confused, but handled the whole experience with manners and calmness.
His name is now Husker. He has no problem answering to this name – because it is close to Buster in sound.
He has been seen by a vet, received his rabies shot and been weighed in at 48 pounds. Husker was deemed healthy. The next day he went to the (pet) beauty shop. He was shaved down pretty good, but it helped to get rid of his winter coat. The temperature here has been in the 70’s and should hit 80 today, so I’m sure he is feeling good! We will take him to be groomed weekly for a while, until his coat is in top condition. I must tell you, getting trimmed was not his favorite thing!
He has had many visitors and many gifts/toys given to him. He is a really good boy and will only get better as he continues to trust and respect us. Husker will begin training in a few weeks and that should make him happy to be learning. He enjoys his daily walks and playing ball in the back yard. His new best friend is Isabelle, the Aussie next door. Next best friend is our daughters Cocker Spaniel, Sam. Today we are going to friends so he can meet Nellie (chocolate lab) and Tallulah (laso apso mix).
Thank you again, for trusting us with this wonderful guy.

I adopted a little Siamese kitty named Ricky a year or so ago from you. I don' t know if you' ll remember, but I just wanted to let you know how much we adore him. He' s grown into a beautiful cat. He had a brother named Racky, we' ve often wondered if he got a good home also. Ricky was renamed Poppy because he loves to pop out of sacks, boxes, drawers, anything he can hide in. He' s a joy. Thank you again.

I
adopted Kasey from York
Adopt a Pet about 1 1/2 years ago. I saw
his adorable face on the computer screen and fell instantly in
love!
There was a lot of interest in Kasey and I
had to do some work to convince the shelter worker that our home was
the one
Kasey was meant to be in. Kasey is a fun
and lively dog and so very loving. He
loves to ride in the truck with me where-ever I go. At home
he
follows me around and is always by
my side. He even sleeps with me at the
foot of the bed, and boy does he snore!
He loves to cuddle and when not on my lap, he's busy pulling one of his
dozens of toys out of his toy basket in the living room or playing or
getting
love from my husband or one of the kids.
He goes with us everywhere and everywhere we go he gets so much
attention! He's so white and fluffy that
people often think he's a stuffed animal- until he moves, ha
ha!
Last summer he was a popular part of the Waco
Dirt Day's Pet Parade. We could not
imagine our lives without Kasey- we love him so much! We're
grateful to York Adopt a Pet for
rescuing him from an unsafe first home and for letting him become a
valuable
member of our family.

As you
may recall, Rhett was from a rescued litter of Golden Retriever/Poodle
puppies. He was one of the runts of the
litter but is in good health and weighs about 35 lbs.
Rhett
has been a
fantastic
pet and a very quick learner. Our boys
(ages 17, 14 & 10) love him to death.
Thanks,

I just wanted to give you an
update
on Lobster.
Well, it has taken a long time but with a few adjustments Lobster is
becoming an amazing cat. She is still very skiddish however
she is
very loving. She loves to be pet which results in a lot of
droolings
and we have finally graduated to sitting in my lap. We are
still
working on migrating her into living with our other two cats.
Right
now she lives in my kids rooms, they have two rooms connected by a
bathroom and that is where she lives. We tried earlier to
have her
live with everyone but they think that because she runs that thats
means they should chase her, so to provide some sanity in everyones
life we have had her live in the kids rooms. Each morning I
find both
of our other cats sitting outside the door to the kids bedroom with
either their feet under the door, or Lobster's, it is a very funny
site. The bottom line is we love her and I am so happy to
have her, I
think someday she may actually get past this stage but if not she is
still perfect just how she is.
Thank you for saving her.

Dog
breath never smelled
so
good
Just
Melanie...
It
was Feb. 11, 2005 -- a
nice day, I guess, if you were paying attention to the weather. But I
wasn't.
It
was the awful day the
Wilkinson household was cut in half and the horrible decision was made
to let
go of the very elderly Keeshond couple we so lovingly had cared for.
Fifteen
years of memories came to an end as we had to say good-bye to our
beloved dogs,
Bono and Keesha.
It
was time to call an
end
to the senility, arthritis, inability to eat properly, leakage and
overall
painful way of life. Our time was over.
That
day, after all was
said
and done, I spent the afternoon cleaning up the house, packing away the
dog
stuff. It was simply too painful to look at, and I swore I'd never have
another
dog. It just hurt too much to let go.
So,
for the past year, we
kept our oath. We swore off dogs and loving animals and taking care of
them and
all the good/bad that goes with it.
That's
until Donna
called.
Bitner, that is. My friend, the dog lover of all time and big-time
Adopt-A-Pet
volunteer called my other friend, Marcia -- Schlegelmilch, that is --
also a
dog lover and big-time Adopt-A-Pet person. They had this quiet
conversation
about how another Keeshond had surfaced. She was at Adopt-A-Pet, wasn't
eating,
seemed depressed and needed a home.
Keeshonds
are a different
kind of dog. They're really people-oriented, extremely organized,
require tons
of attention and most of all their own space and their own family. When
we
first brought Bono home, so many years ago, the people warned us that
this was
no normal dog -- he'd think he's a person, and will need affirmation of
that
theory at all times. They weren't kidding.
So,
being the good dog
people these women are, Marcia relayed the message to me that there's a
female
Keeshond at YAAP -- and of all things, her name is Keesha. What are the
chances?
I
planted my heels and
declared my oath of never having another dog. She kept talking. I told
her to
stop. I couldn't hear any more information.
"Maybe
you should just
go up there and see her," Marcia said, in her quiet yet persistent way.
"Just see her."
"Maybe
you guys could
just foster until we find her a permanent home," Donna speculated.
And
then I thought about
Bono and Keesha and if they were stuck in a pen, all scared and wanting
to go
home. I knew they would swear off food and water, because they were too
depressed. And I knew she wouldn't be any different.
I
told my co-worker that
I
couldn't simply even look at another Keeshond -- they all look so much
alike,
that it would be bad flashbacks of the ones I've loved and lost.
Yet,
my mind wouldn't let
go. The next thing I knew, the two Ms -- Melanie and Marcia -- were
heading to
Adopt-A-Pet. I kept thinking how insane this is -- I swore I'd never
fall in
love again. It was better to have a broken heart, than mend it again
only to
eventually have it broken again.
The
YAAP volunteer was
busy
feeding and walking dogs, and told us Keesha was at the end of the
aisle. I
walked straight down there and our eyes met.
Those
soft brown eyes,
that
beautiful silver, black and white hair.
As
I sobbed in front of
the
cage, my counterpart stood back a ways. She had tears, too.
The
shaky little booger
came
up to the door and I tried to pet her through the cracks. I scratched
her ears
just like I've done before -- and of course, she loved it. I got in the
pen,
and rubbed her back where her curly tail folds over -- just like the
others --
and of course, she loved it.
We
put her on a leash and
took her out for a quick romp about the parking lot. She stopped
shaking in
fear, started wiggling her behind and attempting to do every trick she
knows --
there was so much wanting to shake my hand, roll over and play dead at
the same
time I don't think either of us knew which way was up.
When
it was time to take
her
back to the pen, she started to eat and drink some water. I knew this
was it.
Confessing
to my husband
that I had seen our destiny took about a minute. I could tell he was
already on
board the second I started talking about her. He said he would go to
YAAP the next
afternoon.
Early
the next morning,
while it was still dark, I ran up there to see her -- and to talk to
Gail
Nordlund (who I knew would be around, as always). There was Gail -- I
told her
what we wanted to do -- and then she told me someone from another state
was on their
way to get Keesha. Well, I thought, then it wasn't meant to be.
Before
I left YAAP,
however,
I stopped to talk to Keesha who was running around outside in the pen.
Keesha
came running -- I told her I'd be back if this new owner didn't work
out.
Resigned
to the fact I
had a
"close call" with falling into canine love again, I went through the
rest of the day breathing a sigh of relief I wouldn't have to care that
much
ever again. It's so much easier to not worry about their wet noses, and
infected
ears and how many times they pooped before you go to work.
Then,
the voice mail
light
started to blink before I left for the night. It was Gail -- things
weren't
quite working out with the out-of-state would-be family. Maybe it was
meant to
be after all.
Of
course, the husband
had
to hear the see-saw happenings throughout the day, adapting to each.
The next
morning, he said, he'd be calling Gail to see what was up.
Saturday
morning came,
and I
was in the shower. I heard Jerry leave -- figured he had some work to
do. And
then, I heard the kitchen door re-open upstairs. The next sound I heard
--
"huh, huh, huh, huh . . ."
The
panting wasn't coming
from the husband. It couldn't be mistaken -- this was a different kind
of love.
And
there she was. Our
second Keesha and Jerry stood there in the bathroom, looking at me.
Keesha
licked my entire face, wagged her tail until it almost flew off her
body, she
tried to shake with Jerry, and then tried to shake with me. She was
home.
We
walked, she ate, she
drank, she pooped . . . and man, did she sleep. It was a glorious
honeymoon as
I let my heart heal while I marveled at how good she is. What a
wonderful dog.
It's
not quite a week
yet,
but I have let myself fall in love again. It's back to Beaver Creek
every day,
with her curly tail wiggling down the trail -- and stepping on the
remnants of
chew bones and making sure the water bowl is full. We're back to buying
Pedigree in bulk and making a bed for someone on the floor. It's
rubbing
tummies and "wanna go for a ride?"
And,
as of yesterday,
we're
back to the parenting part of the whole dog love thing -- some messing
with the
trash, a need to tear up some carpet, an accident, some attitude about
us going
to work, some ear problems to clear up.
But
no matter what, it
feels
wonderful to come home to someone who expressly needs us, who can't
wait to
lick a face and roll in the leaves. She's not replaced Bono and Keesha
(the
first) and Sassy (another Keeshond we loved and lost years ago). But
she has
made her own mark on the Wilkinson household that I hope will last for
many,
many years.
Dog
breath never smelled
so
good.

Anna Marie Squiggles
(Alma
Marie) is now living with a family in Woodbine, IA.
She has "adopted" the 10 year
old
boy as her human and will sit on the back of the couch watching TV with
him.
They play
together and she is not
aggressive
towards him or his 8 year old brother.
Both boys LOVE Anna Marie and
she loves them back.
She is getting along
great
with the other 3 cats and the 4 dogs.
She loves to be chased by the
other cats and then she
turns
around and
chases them.
She
also loves to tease the
dogs (which are German Shepard-rotteweiller mixes or labadors) and
their large
sizes does not bother Anna Marie at all.
They all play together during
the night in the basement
and
sometimes
Anne Marie goes outside to play with the dogs.
She always returns to the
house.
I had a microchip implanted
shortly after I got Anna Marie
because of
being in the city.
She no longer shreds
newspapers or magazines like she did at my apartment.
But Anna Marie is still abit
orney and knocks
items off of display shelves.
Over
all,
she has made a great transition to the small town lifestyle.

We have adopted two dogs from York Adopt a Pet, our first one was a Pomeranian, named Bear, we had him for 10 years before he passed away, we recently adopted a Beagle from there a year ago, named Shiloh, she has been a wonderful and exciting dog to have. We suggest to anyone looking for any type of dog that Adopt-a-Pet is the place to find another member of your family.

We
adopted a cat last December and he is such a joy in our family.
I am attaching a pic of the cat we adopted. His
name was Thomas when he was with adopt a pet...His name now is Harley
aka The Stalker!! He soooo loving and follows me everywhere
and meows all the time. Such a joy.I think it would be neat to ad to the web site a place where people can post about the animals they have gotten from adopt a pet...I think it would be cool to keep track of the animals!!
